GETTING HEALTHY AND STAYING IN SHAPE

  • Carlos began this way of eating a little over 5 years ago.
  • He is 55 now, and very muscular.
    • He’s been lifting weights since he was 15 years old, and hasn’t quit.
  • Around 40 years old, he gained about five pounds every years, and got up to 265 at 6’5″.
  • At the time, he thought he was eating right, but eventually realized he was just lied to.
    • He wasn’t trying to lose weight, and figured he was healthy.
  • By accident, Carlos found Vinnie’s podcast.
  • In just over a week, he lost 10 lbs.
  • After around 3 or 4 months, he got to 225 or 230.
    • When he started losing this weight, he also cut down on the exercise a bit, and is still in better shape and health.

Carlos Duran

BEATING DAILY PAIN

  • He ended up starting this way of eating to fight the cramping he felt when he played beach volleyball.
    • Nothing worked for him.
  • But, when he started NSNG®, the cramping largely stopped.
  • And then, he figured out how insulin worked at the like.
  • In a tournament, he used to drink 15 bottles of Gatorade and would still cramp.
    • In two days, when he cut out sugar, he got out of bed, and wasn’t in pain.
  • For Carlos (and everyone else!), the sugar caused inflammation, and when he stopped eating it, he felt like a new person.

THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

  • Going down the road less traveled happens often in life.
  • For Vinnie, it started with going to college, leaving the bayou, meeting new people, not getting instant gratification but learning a lot from his new environment.
  • Weight loss may be the same for a lot of people.
  • Lots of people who start NSNG have tried every other diet/fad/lifestyle, and it hasn’t stuck.
  • Try to take this road less traveled and dive into this lifestyle.
    • It may not be mainstream (yet), but it is the road you will stick with.
  • When the road gets tough, get out your machete and start hacking.
  • Also, it’s normal to lose weight slowly.
    • If you lose too fast, that can be tough on your body!
    • You might lose a lot to start and then it might slow down, or vice versa.

COVID-19 VACCINE

  • Vinnie just got the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • One thing western medicine does well is diagnostics and vaccines.

How to Eat for the Holidays – Episode 1711

by Vinnie Tortorich

HOW TO EAT FOR THE HOLIDAYS

  • People who used to be addicted to sugars and grains may find the holidays a stressful time.
  • Vinnie does truly believe it isn’t what you eat between Hanukkah/Christmas and the New Year, it’s what you eat between the New Year and the holidays that matters.
    • It IS okay to put a bit of LIL over the holidays.
      • However, don’t let yourself fall off completely.
  • Anna’s cookbooks (the Eat Happy series) include some NSNG®-friendly holiday recipes!
    • There are also pretty friendly pies and the like – they do have some sugar in them.
  • We just want you to feel good, so we’re here to tell you about NSNG® comfort foods.
  • For Thanksgiving, she has wild mushroom grain-free casserole, stuffin’ muffins, mashed cauliflower with NSNG® gravy, creamed spinach and more.
    • She has a paleo pumpkin pie, apple pie, cheesecake, and more.
  • You probably want to avoid mulled cider or wine, eggnog, and the like.
    • You CAN make an NSNG® eggnog.
    • Andy has been posting some Tuesday Tips cocktails.

VINNIE’S WORKOUTS

  • Vinnie is moving in a week.
  • He’s already planning his little gym.
  • For about two weeks, while he moves, workouts are going to be tough to fit in.
  • His moving will be some of his workout.
  • However, he needs to commit himself to waking up at 5:30 to workout, to row or bike.
    • This means going to bed early.
      • Proper sleep is incredibly important.
      • He didn’t wait until he started to move to start this routine –– he’s already begun to get in the zone before things get stressful.

NO LIFE INTO LIVING

  • Andy has been strict NSNG® for 280 days.
  • He’s not putting any life into living.
  • He hasn’t had a beer, any cake, or anything.
    • For his birthday, he had a cheese cake. Not a cheesecake, a cheese cake.
  • It’s tough with a young kid.
    • His kid still eats cereal and treats, but Andy refrains.
  • This started with him training for a marathon.
    • He had a serious addiction to junk food.
      • He wanted to see how long he could live without eating crap.
        • Now, he’s 280 days in.
  • He hasn’t had a lot of time to run since the summer, but he feels better.
    • His diet has made up for the fact that he wasn’t exercising too much.
  • Now, he’s done 9 marathons.
    • Hopefully, he’ll hit 10 by March 2021 latest.

TIM REES

  • Check out his previous appearance on the show here.
    • The BS Behind Game Changers – Episode 1466
  • He previously joined Vinnie to talk about the lies laid out in Game Changers.
  • Tim is all about trying to stop ideology from creeping into health and fitness.
    • This is what leads to horrible health issues like we’re facing with prevalent morbid obesity and more.
  • Here are some of his writings:
  • Tim’s an English athlete himself.
  • He recognizes the importance of meat.
    • However, he also believes in regenerative farming.

CUTTING THROUGH HEALTH BS

  • Tim cuts through the BS.
    • Don’t give in to industries or organizations just because they’re an “authority.”
      • Health is corrupted, largely.
  • It’s all the same voices putting out the harmful information.
    • They seem like experts, but they’re yelling “fire” in a movie theater.
  • Tim thinks vegan/vegetarian doctors, trainers, and nutritionists should have to disclose their conflict of interest.
    • Just because they do it doesn’t mean it’s good to push others into it.
  • WHO sits down with companies in the sugar industry and others.

BEST OF: Nutrition and Brain Health with Dr. Georgia Ede – Episode 1618

by Vinnie Tortorich

Episode 1618 – On this Sunday show, we’re giving you a best of featuring Dr. Georgia Ede. She and Vinnie talk biases, variables, epidemiological studies, the relationship between good nutrition and brain health, artificial sweeteners and more.

DR GEORGIA EDE

  • She went to medical school in Vermont.
  • Dr. Ede her residency at Harvard for four years.
  • Dr. Ede believes that for many, it is easier to believe that saturated fat is what causes fat.
    • Not always financial bias.
    • Ex: Loma Linda University study (promotes vegetarian diet) found that saturated fats hurt mice (they ignored that also in the higher fat diet was a MUCH greater amount of sugar).
    • Other studies that say meat is bad removed all processed foods at the same time.
  • There are no pure studies that say animal foods are bad for your health.
  • She believes removing the processed foods is where the money is at .
  • Now, Dr. Georgia does not eat plant foods or dairy.
    • Fish and other meats.
    • Pretty extreme diet.
    • In ketosis constantly.

 NUTRITION AND BRAIN HEALTH

  • Insulin has to cross into the brain.
    • Your brain can become insulin resistant.
    • Then your cells will starve to death when your brain is filled with glucose that can’t be broken down.
    • Link between sugar consumption and Alzheimer’s.
  • She agrees that these artificial sweeteners are so similar to sugar that your body can’t really tell the difference.
    • They trick the body into thinking carbs are coming, thereby raising insulin levels.
  • Coffee, Dr. Ede believes, can be very helpful for those with head trauma, ADD, ADHD, etc.
    • Stimulant is good!
    • Maybe this is why Vinnie does so well with coffee.
