FINANCIAL LITERACY

  • People are not taught how to handle money in school
  • This is something EVERYONE needs to know
    • Not everyone needs calculus — everyone needs to know how to handle money
  • This Chase tweet is sassy, but sums things up
    • Not worth shaming people when the education system fails us
  • Part of making it in business is making sure you spell things correctly in solicitation emails
    • If you are asking for something, make sure you pay attention to detail in your email

CHANGING EXERCISE UP

  • It’s okay and good to be dynamic with exercise
  • You CAN do the same thing over and over
  • But you can change your routine
  • Warm up discipline is always important
  • Muscle confusion is not a thing like the BS people say it is
  • This can mean you do push ups at home one day, go on a run the next, spend time on elliptical the following day, etc.
    • Try neck exercises while sitting at your desk, different types of exercises, etc.

VINNIE’S CANCER TRIALS

  • When Vinnie had cancer, they thought the chemo would kill him
  • He thought to himself, what have I done with my life?
  • His clients were avoiding sugar and grains, but he was so nauseous all the time he just had to eat whatever he could keep down
  • Asked his doctor if antioxidants or anything like that made a difference because that was the buzz word regarding cancer prevention at the time
    • A sort of bro science
      • Collagen protein and others came after – Anna’s functional doc told her this stuff was all BS

CLEANSES

  • Buying ‘cleanses’ are total scams
  • Yes, if you stop eating bad food, your body will start to recuperate
  • You don’t need any $450 fancy juices to make this happen
  • In fact, a juice cleanse is just a week eating only very small amounts of sugar
  • Cleanses are the definition of good intentions being stolen
  • Spend the money on healthy food at the grocery store and don’t starve yourself or eat overpriced crap

WALKING AS GREAT EXERCISE

  • Gina broke her foot
  • In a little exoskeleton in place of a cast
  • Using crutches, keeping weight off of it for a few weeks
  • This is super hard for Gina because she is a walker
    • Walks everywhere, all the time!
  • Walking is real exercise
    • Also a form of meditation
    • Use the time to disconnect from technology, just enjoy your surroundings or your company

BRO SCIENCE

  • Breast milk is the new fad for pre-workout bro science
  • Do NOT drink breast milk before you work out – unnecessary
    • Pretty crazy
  • “Body builders are drug addicts”
  • Some body builders used to eat baby food
  • Liver is actually a good thing to eat
    • Not going to give you superhuman powers, though
  • Don’t listen to someone who starts their day off by injecting themselves with drugs
    • Insulin (if they aren’t diabetic), steroids, etc.
  • One fad is making carb the main event of a meal
    • This was NEVER supposed to be the way
    • A relatively new phenomenon

PRE AND POST WORKOUT FOOD

  • Usually Vinnie gets this questions from Gym Rats who have been taught silly “Bro Science”
    • One listener was told to take a drink that could increase lung capacity by 40%
      • This is BS
    • If nootropics work for you, OK, but there are natural, better things that you can take
  • Coffee is an ergogenic
    • Pro Athletes can only have so much coffee in them at one time because of the ergogenic aid
  • Don’t buy into the bro-science hype
    • It won’t help you if it isn’t a steroid or a blood-doping drug, and if it is one of those, then it is going to hurt you!
  • Protein intake:
    • 1g/1lb of body weight is a CRAZY amount of protein
    • For a 225 athlete with 175lb lean body mass, maybe eat 100-120 lbs

SUN DAMAGE

  • Ever since Vinnie’s childhood he had been exposed to the sun excessively
  • He had to get some pre-cancer removed from arms and even his hip, although his hip doesn’t see the sun
  • Lesions on his head too
  • Didn’t use any numbing devices

  • Found Vinnie through Opi and Anthony
  • Has been on and off with NSNG
    • Gained a lot of the weight he lost back, but whenever he goes back on it that weight falls back off

CHOCOLATE MILK & BRO SCIENCE

  • Some of Charlie’s friends are pro tennis players
  • One of his friends told a kid he was training that the best thing to drink for recovery is chocolate milk
  • Chocolate milk is all sugar!
  • Water, maybe with some electrolytes is what is best
  • Everything that is ‘muscle milk’ this ‘chocolate protein’ that is full of egg protein, and bad sugar, all raises your glycemic index
    • Everything will go up a whole bunch which is not good
  • Chocolate is a great antioxidant but people don’t want to eat bitter chocolate, so they eat chocolate with sugar in it which is not healthy
    • 80%+ is good
  • Awful to teach kids these things
    • It will make these kids fat and actually hurt their sports

Angriest Trainer 260: Stephanie Person and Tim Reed

by Vinnie Tortorich

Vinnie and Anna talk to Stephanie Person about Dietary Ketosis, Intermittent Fasting, PMS, and being a Ketogenic Coach. Seven years ago her mom was diagnosed with aggressive form of brain cancer and was given 3-6 months to live. Her brother threw out all of her toothpaste and her deodorant, lotion and anything that could be toxic and then took her off processed carbohydrates. Then took out some fruit and upped her fat intake. Her mom lost 65 pounds and her cancer stopped growing after they changed her diet. 7 years later the tumor hasn’t grown. It’s just sitting there, asleep.

Here are some of the highlights from the interview…

People are wrecking their bodies with sugar and processed foods.

Organic virgin coconut oil, grass fed butter, grass fed beef, organic pastured eggs, high quality olive oil, and avocados are fantastic sources of high quality fats. Meat fats like lard and pork fat are great for you.

Most people have metabolic damage. Calories are irrelevant due to your metabolism and hormonal balance. It comes down to fitness level, gender and age.

If you’re unhappy you’re going to have elevated levels of cortisol, which means you’re going to have elevated levels of sugar, which creates insulin, which blocks fat breakdown.

When we were hunter-gatherers we didn’t have bread trees.

Pasta, rice and quinoa will increase your blood sugar!

Nobody is a night owl. Everybody should be an early bird!

TimReedAfter Stephanie’s interview, Vinnie and Anna welcome fat-adapted endurance athlete Tim Reed on the show to discuss going against the grain with endurance nutrition.
