Angriest Trainer 75: The Serena Scott Thomas Interview

by Vinnie Tortorich

Jan022013

Vinnie and Anna talk Chi Running with the beautiful and lovely Serena Scott Thomas.

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

Serena Scott Thomas is in studio for an interview. Early in the show, they talk about the good Senator, Gary Hand. Check out the “before and after” photos below. Around April, he weighed at least 250 pounds. By mid November, he was down to 210. He’s currently 200, and has gone from a size 42 jeans to a 34. “This first picture is the reason why I decided I needed to lose weight,” Gary says. “I look ten years older…and check out that chin!” Vinnie then mentions neuroscientist Molly Crockett from TED. They later talk about the possibility of Vinnie giving a talk for TED. Serena and Vinnie then recall the time they broke up. Vinnie later mentions the newsletter he’ll start sending out, which can be found on vinnietortorich.com. Serena tells of her experience in her latest ultra marathon. That leads to a discussion about electrolytes. Serena later explains Chi Running.

Recipe Tuesday: Almond Meal Onion Rings

by Vinnie Tortorich

Jan012013
Happy New Year, Everyone!!

When is the last time you had a bonafide onion ring?  For me, it’s been at least 11 years (since being diagnosed with celiac).  Make these simple onion rings with a sweet onion and some Bob’s Red Mill Flour Almond Meal, which is made from raw almonds to keep the carb count way lower than traditional gluten free flours.

I top my pork chops with these onion rings, and every one is tricked into thinkin’ they’re eating something decadent.  This “No Sugar No Grains” thing is starting to get easier, people.  Try it with me!

Almond Meal Onion Rings

2 sweet onions, sliced into 1/2 inch rings and separated
2 eggs, beaten in a bowl
1/2-1 cup almond meal
Salt & Pepper
olive oil or grapeseed oil (grapeseed can really handle the high heat of frying)

Dredge onions in the egg wash, then coat with almond meal.  The almond meal might go on pretty chunky, just roll with it.

Heat 1/4 inch of oil in a non-stick pan to high heat.  The pan is hot enough when you throw a crumb in the oil, it will sizzle.  Fry up onion rings in batches, setting on paper towels to drain, season with salt & pepper.

Angriest Trainer 74: Cancer Discussion and Eat To Live

by Vinnie Tortorich

Dec312012

Vinnie and Anna go through a popular email going around about how to prevent cancer, plus a lively discussion on the “Eat to Live” diet.

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

This show kicks off with Vinnie and Anna giving a shout out to one of their “super fans,” who sent in an article about the Army cutting out grains and sugar (unlike the FDA). That leads to talk of the GMO fish. “What’s next? Genetically modified hookers?” Vinnie concludes. He then tells Anna about the report of Susie Favor-Hamilton, a U.S. Olympic runner who turned to a life of high-class prostitution. Anna and Vinnie move on to a discussion of nutrition and cancer. Vinnie then talks about his battle with leukemia and chemotherapy. They proceed to talk about sugar and artificial sweeteners. Vinnie later talks about his friend Matt Serletic, who worked with Aerosmith on their hit song “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.” Anna then finds some surprising information on the article.

Angriest Trainer 72: Dean Lorey, Part 2

by Vinnie Tortorich

Dec262012

Vinnie and Anna catch up with Hollywood’s most prolific writer-director Dean Lorey. Buy his Nightmare Academy
books!

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

Dean Lorey makes his triumphant return to the podcast, leading off with a comical retelling of a Vinnie recipe. Vinnie then talks about his disdain for words, preferring to simply point most of the time. He also talks about his inability to remember names, and how he falls back on “Pumpkin.” By the time the podcast ends, Anna and Vinnie realize they didn’t get around to talking about health and fitness since Dean was only supposed to be on for a few minutes.
