HEART HEALTHY GRAIN SHAM

  • Some doctors recommend “heart healthy grains.”
  • This is more a marketing sham than anything else.
    • Just like “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” which was made up by a breakfast foods company!
      • Literally, Kellogg did this.
  • Epidemiological studies should not be trusted.
  • Many of these, recommending such grains, are funded by grain companies like Unilever or Barilla (the past company).

OFF-BASE ANTI-MEAT OPINIONS

  • There is an opinion piece in the NYT.
  • It makes a stand against meat consumption.
  • Even if this is well-meant, it is not hitting the mark.
  • Vinnie’s opinion is that this a just a political piece, and it just comes down to promoting your own political view.
    • These pieces affect people because of the emotional aspect.
    • As far as health is concerned, however, we need meat.
    • Additionally, the environment is not an actual concern with meat.
      • Please check out this podcast with Dr. Ballerstedt.
  • The man who wrote this article has written several pro-vegetarianism books.

Angriest Trainer 74: Cancer Discussion and Eat To Live

by Vinnie Tortorich

Vinnie and Anna go through a popular email going around about how to prevent cancer, plus a lively discussion on the “Eat to Live” diet.

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

This show kicks off with Vinnie and Anna giving a shout out to one of their “super fans,” who sent in an article about the Army cutting out grains and sugar (unlike the FDA). That leads to talk of the GMO fish. “What’s next? Genetically modified hookers?” Vinnie concludes. He then tells Anna about the report of Susie Favor-Hamilton, a U.S. Olympic runner who turned to a life of high-class prostitution. Anna and Vinnie move on to a discussion of nutrition and cancer. Vinnie then talks about his battle with leukemia and chemotherapy. They proceed to talk about sugar and artificial sweeteners. Vinnie later talks about his friend Matt Serletic, who worked with Aerosmith on their hit song “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.” Anna then finds some surprising information on the article.
