Angriest Trainer 71: The Jess Perreca Follow Up

by Vinnie Tortorich

Dec242012

Jess Perreca of TooBig.net gets back on the wagon on this very special Christmas Eve episode.

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

Vinnie starts the show talking about Justin Beiber and Kwanzaa. Anna and Vinnie then give a plug to a previous guest, writer Dean Lorey (author of the Nightmare Academy books, among others). That leads to the interview with Jess Perreca, who has been blogging since 2002. Jess started with Weight Watchers, which Vinnie predicted wouldn’t work long term. Starting off well, Jess says binge eating came back to haunt him. After losing about 60 pounds, he went “out of control” and began to gain weight again. Recognizing binge eating as a disorder, Jess has tried other ways to lose weight, including a life coach. “It’s going to be a lifelong learning process for myself,” Jess says. Anna later discusses the hunger and emotional side of a restrictive diet.

They then talk about carbonation and cellulite. That leads to an interview with Jimmy Moore, who once weighed over 400 pounds. He started to make a change back in 2004. They move into discussion of Dr. Oz. Angriest Trainer 69: The Dean Lorey Interview

by Vinnie Tortorich

Dec192012

A very special interview with the great Dean Lorey!

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

The man who is literally running Hollywood, Dean Lorey, is in studio. They start the show talking about Gay Andy coming over for Christmas, but Dean won’t be able to make it because he’ll be in Hawaii. Vinnie then receives a call from his girlfriend, Serena Scott Thomas, who is in the middle of Christmas shopping hell. Vinnie later talks about Dr. Oz, who he calls a walking, talking infomercial. The conversation then turns to Dean’s beard, which draws comparisons to comedian Brian Posehn. Vinnie and Dean tell the story of how they wrote the book together, including mood lighteners like Family Guy and Shakira, particularly, the “Hips Don’t Lie” video. They later talk about if a movie were made Vinnie would be played by Daniel Day Lewis and Dean by Paul Giamatti. They then compare their southern roots, as both Dean and Anna have lived in Georgia.

Angriest Trainer 68: Weight Loss Surgery, Carb Cravings & Cougars

by Vinnie Tortorich

Dec172012

Vinnie and Anna discuss this ridiculous article, how to control carb cravings, and the Celebrity Cougars Vinnie loves.

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

Leading off this episode, Vinnie and Anna talk about vitamin products and how some have fillers. Vinnie talks about the possibility of selling better vitamins. Anna then reads an article about eating less. As Vinnie frequently says, we’re the only animal on the planet that thinks it’s a good day when we have less to eat. Vinnie then begins to lose his mind as Anna reads more. Anna reads an article that says surgery and drugs are the most effective treatment for obesity. This causes Vinnie to go nuts and practically give up on podcasting. Vinnie then talks about his now infamous appearance on Oprah. Vinnie was doing the cougar thing before it was cool. He was also wearing pink pants, which was never cool. This leads to a discussion of celebrity cougars. They talk about Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler’s mom from The American Pie series), Jane Fonda, Helen Mirren, and of course, Sophia Loren (Vinnie’s all-time favorite cougar). They then take questions about dealing with carb cravings.

Angriest Trainer 67: 5Ks, Nut Butters & Chelsea Boore

by Vinnie Tortorich

Dec142012

Vinnie and Anna discuss running 5Ks to increase speed, how to make nut butters, and interview loyal listener Chelsea Boore about her successes and concerns with No Sugar No Grains.

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

Vinnie and Anna start the show by talking about Vinnie’s adventures in getting his book published. He won’t take the Jillian Michaels approach, so he’s looking into the possibility of self-publishing it. Anna then tells about her personal record in her recent 5K. That leads them to discussing Dean Lorey and his son. They then move on to a question about making peanut butter in the Vitamix. This leads to the Andrea Anders nut butter segment idea being born. Longtime listener/first time interviewee Chelsea Boore gets a call for some free advice. She’s been doing no sugar and no grains. While she lost weight right away and has been strict, she’s noticed some weight gain. They investigate the possibilities that may be the problem. Aside from diet, they talk about the types of exercises she’s doing as well. As they wrap up the show, they talk about how Anna will be posting more recipes. And, for good measure, Vinnie calls himself the King of Fitness for, like, the 80th time before the show ends.

Angriest Trainer 66: Fueling for Endurance

by Vinnie Tortorich

Dec122012

Vinnie and Anna answer twitter questions, with a run-down on exactly how to fuel for endurance sports.

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

Twitter questions kick off this episode. Vinnie and Anna get into a discussion about racism, and the lack of it they’ve experienced. They then mention how Anna and Gay Andy will be posting recipes to the site. That leads to mentioning this very blog, which will be a regular feature. Robin Blackburn asks a question about fueling for endurance. One Twitter question basically took up the entire show due to the detailed answer.
