BRAD & VINNIE

  • Vinnie came onto the Primal Blueprint podcast (Brad’s), and he advertised for PVC
    • Vinnie’s segment was edited out because they had a policy where they don’t want people to advertise for products they sell on their website already (vitamins)
  • Brad and Vinnie had a slight disagreement about that, now they are good friends!
    • They briefly talked bad about each other, but now they are close and are fans of each other
  • Brad became a hero of Vinnie’s because he ended up being a stand up guy

BRAD KEARNS

  • Check out Brad’s website
  • Works with Mike Sisson
  • One of the best triathletes in history
  • Went to the hospital for the first time in 20 years last year
    • Had appendicitis (he thinks it was brought on by severe dehydration and just not being fully healthy because Brad had been overtraining)
  • Character building process having to move on from racing to the rest of your career
  • Won a ton in his 20s! Check out his accolades on his website, link above
  • Has separated and compartmentalized the wonderful accessibility of digital communication and real life communication
  • Plays speed golf!!!!!

KIDS THESE DAYS

  • Facebook is going to die out, the two think
  • Kids are programmed to be great at everything
  • Everything is more intense
  • Very different time, less hippy-dippy than when Vinnie and Brad grew up

PROFESSIONAL TRIATHLETES

  • They created triathlons for professionals
  • Brad worked in accounting for 12 weeks after attending UCLA, then he realized he did not like it, and worked to become a pro triathlete
  • Not a lot of money in it, but he pursued it none the less
  • Won over 30 triathlons, including 7 in a row
  • Brad had a pure and natural motivation for competing as an athlete
  • Brad got his butt kicked for awhile, then eventually started to catch up to these old pros
  • His first triathlon, he was 24th/27 after the first run section, then he ended up winning, beating guys like Molina and Sousa
    • Was 4 minutes behind the leaders because they were all going way too quickly and bonked

STARTING PVC

  • Nobody thought this company would work
    • Both were warned that this would be a failure
  • Vinnie went to bank to start check book for company at bank
    • More recently, the woman who helped him saw him at the bank and said hi
    • Asked “How did you do with that vitamin company” with a head tilt and a furrowed brow
      • She was shocked that it was successful
        • She had seen too many of these things fail, but not this one!
  • Now look! Healthy, affordable, and successful vitamins
  • PVC is great because it is not white-labeled
    • No already established product formula in PVC, all brand new unlike every other vitamin company

ARE KID-FRIENDLY VITAMINS ON THE WAY FOR PVC?

  • For kids over 8, our PVC vitamins out currently do the trick
  • We do not see a <8 vitamin coming in the near future
  • The FDA (and thus we don’t) does not recommend this type of vitamin for little kids
    • We don’t think there WOULD be a problem for a 7 year old, but kids are more sensitive and that is a judgement call of the parents
    • We will not claim that our vitamin is appropriate for 6 & younger
  • There is not, unfortunately, a kids’ vitamin that Vinnie and Andy would recommend
    • A lot of kid vitamins include sugar or other added fillers
  • Issue with gummy vitamins is that you are teaching your kid that something sweet is something good

  • Then Vinnie went to Hancock park to his friend’s house who is in bad shape
    • Watched the rest of the game in his in-home theater
      • Like being at the game!
    • Some of these in-home theaters have movie snacks and everything
    • Hard to watch the game when his friend is sick

BUILDING CHEST MUSCLE

  • Do not do EVERY exercise in one day
  • How to choose how to build your chest:
    • If you’re not trying to become a bodybuilder, at the very most pick 3 exercises per workout that focus on Chest
    • Ex: bench press, incline, decline, dips, dumbbell press, flat fly, incline fly, decline fly, pushups
  • Hit it and quit it — your body can only handle so much
  • Start with major exercise, then do two minor exercises
  • Also, make sure you are warmed up with a light weight exercise first (this does not count as 1 of your 3 exercises)
  • How much weight (8-9 sets of press)
    • Reps: 12-15 is good, you want to be hurting at rep 12 (weight wise) and wondering if you can get to 15
    • If you are doing 8 reps, you want to be ‘struggling’ at rep 6
  • Free weights make sure someone is spotting you
  • Don’t overwork triceps either (tricep extensions)
  • More is not necessarily better

QUITTING SUGAR

  • If you aren’t going to quit grain, your liver doesn’t know that you quit sugar
  • It might help quitting just sugar, but not ever really effective until you quit both

PUTTING LIFE INTO LIVING

  • You can enjoy sugar or grain every once in awhile, just don’t go crazy and don’t make it a habit, then it is a slippery slope
  • Vinnie has done 2 years of NLIL and hasn’t found ways around it
    • He never told himself lies and ate agave or fake sugars or anything like that
    • If you want to do NLIL, don’t lie to yourself — your liver won’t believe you!

BUILDING MUSCLE: DOES NSNG ELIMINATE THE NEED TO BULK AND CUT?

  • The idea that you have to “bulk and cut” is just bro science
    • Regardless, to unhealthily “bulk”, you need to carbo load, and to cut, you drop carbs unhealthily
      • Body Builders did this to look good for one day
        • Listen to the show
  • You need protein and fats to build muscles
    • So much better to gain muscle NSNG — healthier with better muscles
  • Working for big muscles and strength are really one in the same
  • Guys who train with carbs are “fit fat”
    • They have huge muscles but practically look pregnant

HOW ANDY CHANGED VINNIE’S LIFE

  • Andy got Vinnie a SodaStream — Vinnie likes his water gassed up
  • Save a lot of money not buying Pellegrino etc even though the gas tanks are $15
  • Favorite appliance behind Vitamix
  • Vinnie made fizzy coffee from cold-brewed coffee
    • He loved his ice-soda coffee

ANDY’S DINNER PRE-PREPARED FOODS (ENCHILADA SUACE)

  • Wanted to make a Mexican chicken casserole-y thing without tortillas
  • He doesn’t always have time to do everything fresh in terms of prep
  • Got a can of El Pato enchilada sauce
    • Tomato puree
    • Water
    • Chili peppers
    • Salt
    • Onion
    • Citric acid
    • Garlic
    • Locust bean gum
    • spices
    • In a rush, this is not a bad pre-preapred food to have BUT tomato puree is risky
      • Not the end of the world if you don’t have an egregious amount
  • Used olive oil, spices, cotija cheese, skinless chicken browned, this sauce put it all in dish, melted mozzarella on top
  • Vinnie isn’t a huge mozzarella fan because it is low in fat and high in carbs for a cheese
