There Is No Cheat

  • They spend a little time chatting about musician Cat Stevens (aka, Yusuf Islam). (2:00)
  • Vinnie’s started making his iced coffee again. (14:00)
    • He uses soda water and sometimes tequila; yep, he said tequila.
    • Gina assigns the name “The Tortorich” to the beverage.
  • Gina asks Vinnie about his health. (24:00)
    • Vinnie will have a fraction of the chemo he had before; however, he will have to go into an isolation mode to avoid infection for a few weeks.
    • He made it 17 years without it coming back; he had been told it would be back within 5 years.
    • His choice of lifestyle has helped keep it at bay for that long.
  • Gina has a story about an old wives’ tale. (36:00)
    • It’s a question about resistant starch and freezing bread.
    • Some things can be done to certain foods to reduce their glycemic index; however, their effect is still too much for metabolically broken people. (38:00)
    • So if you have a sluggish or damaged metabolism, they aren’t going to help you. They will still likely hinder your progress.

A Health Update

  • Vinnie has made it 17 years keeping his cancer at bay when he had been told that it would return in 5 years. (58:00)
  • Do not give Vinnie pity or cry for him—he’s not into that and he’s very positive about his treatment.
    • His doctors and he are very optimistic about his options for treatment.
    • He will only need a fraction of the treatment dosage he had years ago.
    • He has to remain isolated to avoid infection.
  • He doesn’t feel bad and is asymptomatic, but he was noticing some differences in his tougher workouts a few months ago. (1:06:00)
  • He plans to keep his audience updated with how he’s doing.
  • Anna’s upcoming Eat Happy Italian book is on the way.

  • Vinnie and Anna start the show with Anna cooking while Vinnie gives her a rundown of the recent Saturday show (Episode 2132) with “Lucy X”. (3:30)

Dr. Patricia Gordon: Hero of the Year – Episode 1967

Episode 1967 – On this Saturday show, Dr. Patricia Gordon joins Vinnie to discuss their relationship, her role in saving Vinnie’s life, her charitable work curing cervical cancer, CNN hero of the year, and more.

SAVING VINNIE’S LIFE

  • Aside from Andy, Dr. Gordon (or Patty, as Vinnie calls her), is Vinnie’s oldest friend in LA.
  • Andy and Patty met through cycling, and then Vinnie and Patty met.
  • Thanks to Dr. Gordon, Vinnie is alive today.
    • She figured out that Vinnie had a blood problem — that blood problem was leukemia. 
      • She noticed that he had very concerning symptoms, and thankfully right before it was too late.
