WHY VITAMIN B12 IS IMPORTANT

  • One of the essential vitamins
  • Deficiency is serious…affects blood cells and energy
  • Plentiful in animal foods

VEGANS AND B12

  • Vitamin B12 does not occur naturally in any plant-based food
  • The only exception are organisms that attach themselves to plant-based food

FORMS OF B12

  • Vast majority of supplements come in the form of cyanocobalamin
  • Vitamin is bound together by cyanide molecule
  • It must be converted to methylcobalamin in liver
  • And it takes energy to flush out of liver

HIGH GLYCEMIC FRUITS

  • When Lonnie eats high glycemic foods or fruits such as bananas, cantaloupe or watermelon, his blood sugar shoot up over 180 and stays that way for a while.  What should he be eating?
  • Veggies should be your mainstay.  Fruit is okay if it is low glycemic but stay away from fruits and foods that give you a blood sugar spike
