BREAKING SUGAR ADDICTION

  • Sugar is incredibly addictive.
    • It’s a drug.
  • You’re always chasing the sugar high.
    • Your hormones kick in and you want more.
      • It leaves you thinking about it later.
  • Anna thinks you should wait two or three months of no sugar at ALL (no life into living) to break the emotional addiction.
    • When you’re at day 25 and you’re planning your sugar feast, that’s not good.
  • Talking to someone about a sugar addiction is a good thing!
  • The food isn’t actually making you feel better — you aren’t healing.
    • A really good addict believes your own lies.
  • Vinnie loves sugar, but he stays away from it to avoid falling into addiction and hurting his body and mind.
    • For him, avoiding cancer is a big motivating factor.
  • When Vinnie does put life into living, he will have a bite or two then STOP. He’ll drink the coffee immediately after.

TURNING AROUND YOUR HEALTH

  • Andy met Vinnie and Andy at a convention in Dayton.
  • He drove from Minneapolis.
  • At that point, he’d been doing NSNG® for just short of a year.
    • He wanted to meet Vinnie and thank him for his part in turning around his health.
  • He found Vinnie through the Carolla show.
    • For the first two years of Vinnie’s appearances, he would speed through because he wasn’t ready to hear it.
      • Once Gina and Dr. Drew spoke to their personal experiences, Adam started paying attention.
  • He really did feel like his good intentions were healthier — he tried to do what people said were ‘good,’ but he could never lose weight or stay on it.
  • Why are we eating the food that farmers feed cows to fatten them up for slaughter?
  • Within a few week, he was listening to his body — when he was hungry, when he was full. His clothes started fitting differently.
  • He’s about 5’9″, started around 350 and has lost about 90 lbs. He’s just over 2 years in.
    • He has a ways to go, but he knows how he’s going to do it.
  • Andy’s kids have done this, too.
    • His 13 year old son has lost about 40 lbs himself.
      • Now, his son plays football because he’s fit enough!
      • His energy is much better, too.
  • Andy and his son started a fantastic clothing company, SnakeScout:

GOING TO THE GYM DURING COVID-19

  • Vinnie has to make an appointment to go to the gym for certain rooms.
  • When it comes down to it, he’s just glad he can go.
  • However, the mask policy is poorly enforced and seems fairly arbitrary.
  • He also wasn’t allowed to stay past his appointment time even though the room was not at capacity and he offered to leave if anyone else entered.
  • Generally, they’ve smartly spaced out aerobic equipment.
    • However, they have some aerobic equipment in the weight room.

Overcoming Cognitive Dissonance & Home Gyms – Episode 1699

by Vinnie Tortorich

Episode 1699 – On this Monday show, Anna Vocino and Vinnie Tortorich talk old movies and songs, being woke, bad whey protein, Loren (Anna’s husband) joins to talk about home gyms, and John joins the show to discuss his weight loss story and overcoming cognitive dissonance.

OVERCOMING COGNITIVE DISSONANCE

  • John was on the show about a year and a half ago.
  • He got really serious about this all on January.
  • For a bit, he had intense hunger pain.
    • He diversified his diet, because it was primarily processed cheese and chicken wings.
      • Within a few weeks, the hunger pangs are down and so is his weight!
  • John’s like 100 lbs lower than his heaviest weight!
  • It was cognitively dissonant** for while, but once he tried it and saw that it worked, overcoming cognitive dissonance was easy and he was sold.
    • He had tried Nutrisystem and other ‘diet’ plans, and none worked.

** The term cognitive dissonance is used to describe the mental discomfort that results from holding two conflicting beliefs, values, or attitudes. People tend to seek consistency in their attitudes and perceptions, so this conflict causes feelings of unease or discomfort.

HOME GYMS

  • Used weights weigh the same as new weights!
    • Check out Facebook marketplace.
  • You can make a really simple home gym fairly cheaply.
  • Vinnie and Loren talk about ways to furnish your home gyms.
    • You don’t need tons of equipment.

  • Andy has been strict NSNG® for 280 days.
  • He’s not putting any life into living.
  • He hasn’t had a beer, any cake, or anything.
    • For his birthday, he had a cheese cake. Not a cheesecake, a cheese cake.
  • It’s tough with a young kid.
    • His kid still eats cereal and treats, but Andy refrains.
  • This started with him training for a marathon.
    • He had a serious addiction to junk food.
      • He wanted to see how long he could live without eating crap.
        • Now, he’s 280 days in.
  • He hasn’t had a lot of time to run since the summer, but he feels better.
    • His diet has made up for the fact that he wasn’t exercising too much.
  • Now, he’s done 9 marathons.
    • Hopefully, he’ll hit 10 by March 2021 latest.

BUYING INTO DIET CULTURE

  • Amy was always on a diet, she went to weight loss camps, she spent all of this money, and nothing helped her.
    • She still bought into the moderation and calorie fantasy.
  • She tried every fad diet there was and never stopped to think: maybe it’s more than just these diets.
  • THIRTY FIVE TIMES she tried Weight Watchers.
  • Several years ago, though, she realized she needed a health and lifestyle change, not some unsustainable diet.
  • Within two weeks of eating low carb, she felt so different.
    • She was satiated.
    • She ended up cancelling her surgery and she’s so glad she did.
  • When she began, she kept it super simple.
