DIET

  • He was eating lots of sugar and grains
  • Took him awhile to figure out that they were hurting them due to the fact that a high carb diet is preached to athletes
  • Went cold turkey
  • Bloating went away almost immediately, started to feel better
  • Had some left over symptoms that resolved as he kept with it

A DAY IN THE FOOD-LIFE OF CHRISTOPHER KELLY

  • Doesn’t insist on eggs for breakfast
    • Eats leftovers for breakfast
  • Eat what you have!
  • Vinnie doesn’t eat lunch often because he has big breakfasts and his body is using the fat

Minnie Driver

Vinnie and Anna welcome Minnie Driver and Andrea Anders in the studio. Special guest appearances from Loren Tarquinio and Izzy the Italian Greyhound.

Michael Tortorich sums up the podcast in the My Uncle Vinnie Blog Wrap Up:

British actress and singer-songwriter Minnie Driver is in the studio for the first time, along with returning guest Andrea Anders. Minnie is probably best-known for her role in Good Will Hunting, a film she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for her part in the television series The Riches. The conversation flows to Minnie’s dating history, three balls, and Southern Comfort. Later in the podcast, they talk about Dr. Oz’s diet tips. Stick around until the end because Minnie plays out the show on guitar with a nice serenade.

  • Also wrote Natural Born Heroes which Vinnie is also reading
  • http://www.chrismcdougall.com
  • Chris looks for what has lineage when he wants to find how to do something properly
    • “Chi running”-style running has the lineage, has the history that works
      • This is what tribes have done forever, and it keeps them healthy and allows them to run incredibly well and efficiently

RUNNING SHOES

by Vinnie Tortorich

Kristin Couture, a listener from Connecticut, joins Vinnie Tortorich on this Saturday edition of the Angriest Trainer podcast.

NEW JERSEY

  • Both Vinnie and Kristin have some bad feelings toward Connecticut
    • Too crowded, some rudeness
  • PLUS, Chris Christie is the governor… and that says something
  • Vinnie was in the airport and even the coffee was awful
    • Mafia-run

HOW NECESSARY ARE SUPPLEMENTS REALLY?

  • Kristin takes magnesium, and a probiotic, and omega-3
    • Is this enough? Is this a waste of money?
  • PVC was created so people didn’t waste money and got the supplements they needed
  • Some supplements with bad stuff ARE a waste of money, but without the sand and silica and such, they are not a waste
  • We can’t get all of our nutrients from food so supplements really are important
    • Between preservation, diet, and how things are grown, no diet is perfect
  • There is an argument really for any supplements — depends what each individual really needs
    • Just like how not everyone needs 8 glasses of water a day
      • Some people need 4, and some need 12!
