      • He wins bone broth
    • Dry Ease Dehumidifier
    • $2400
    • He bought some other stuff, too!
    • He’s from MO

REDUCING INFLAMMATION

  • When you ingest poison, your body will try to get rid of it
  • First, your stomach will try to get rid of poison
    • Ex: drinking too much alcohol
  • Other forms of poison: SUGAR AND GRAIN
  • If you don’t drink, or eat til you throw up but you still ingest poison, your auto-immune system will try to catch
  • Inflammation occurs when your white blood cells try to get rid of poison
    • More water is added to cells to try to flush the bad cells
  • Your brain is trying to maintain homeostasis
  • If you have any sort of autoimmune issue, your body has to work even harder to get rid of the bad stuff

PAUL BOSTON

  • Hails from Toronto
  • Found Vinnie 4 or 5 years ago
  • He is an ultra athlete and triathlete
  • An expert at winter training, because Canada gets so darn cold!

COLD WEATHER TRAINING

  • Firstly, exercise is a poor way to lose weight
  • If you want to lose weight while exercising, though, Zone 2 is the way to go
  • Also the best way to train in cold weather
    • Not too little, not too much
  • A comfortable cold is around 20ºF for Paul
  • Layers are key!
    • However, want to make sure you don’t have too much on
      • Want to start a little cold because you will warm up
      • If you get too hot, you will sweat too much and that will end up making you colder
  • Paul will wear compression tights and shirt underneath his fabric clothes
  • Jacket depends on wind
  • His winter running coat has a windshield in the front which is crucial
  • Gloves incredibly important
    • Vinnie and Paul both use his cross country ski gloves
      • Wind-stopper technology
  • Hat covering ears and mouth is helpful
  • On his feet, he wears spiked trail shoes for traction on ice and snow
    • Built-in carbon tip spikes
  • Vinnie had spiked tires for his early morning mountain winter bike training
  • Make sure to drink enough water during cold weather training

THE NUTRITION MYTH BUSTER

  • Jonny has a lot of issues with the health and nutrition industry
  • He has many firm stances that contradict popular health and fitness ideas, similar to Vinnie’s:
    • Cholesterol is not out to get you!
      • Sat fats DO NOT cause heart disease
        • France paradox is not a paradox
    • Eating fat can make you lose weight!
    • The Standard American Diet is a load of bullsh*t
    • Carbs are the real issue
    • The guys at ADA are lying to you and harming you
  • Check out his website here! You can buy nutrition plans and the like!
  • The micro biome has incredible power
    • Gut bacteria may be a bigger factor than the food that you eat
    • Lots of research into that now
  • Weight loss is NOT ABOUT CALORIES OR EXERCISE!
    • Advice that says otherwise can really hurt people
    • As Vinnie always says (correctly), exercise is a poor way to lose weight
  • We are still figuring out hormones, sleep, etc., and their relation to weight loss

  • She now, at 10:30 am, is having some chicken breast leftover and glazed portobello mushrooms, and some acorn squash for breakfast
    • She will have a snack around 3 or 4 and then wait until dinner at around 7

CAULIFLOWER

  • Cauliflower is now very “in”

Grass-Fed Beef and F***ed-Up Chocolate

GRASS-FED BEEF

  • Is conventional beef better than grass-fed because it is fatter?
Grass-fed still has plenty of fat as long as you are eating the fatty parts
Taste & quality is what really matters
Grass-fed beef isn’t given corn or grains so that is good if you can afford it but if not, no big deal!
As long as you avoid fast-food meat as much as possible, you’re good
Vinnie eats a lot of grass-fed but mostly just eats whatever he can
Prices of grass-fed depends on availability

EUROPEAN EATING

Lots of dairy
Different stores for every type of food
They don’t full their food full of hormones and chemicals

No GMOs
When Anna was in Italy, she did notice the kids were getting a bit chunkier

CHOCOLATE

NSNG PHILLY CHEESESTEAK

PURE, WHITE, AND DEADLY

  • Dr. Yudkin
  • 1972, book written about the dangers of sugar
  • Cool thing is back in the early ’60s there was a war between Dr. John Yudkin and Ancel Keys
    • Ancel argued yes carbs, Yudkin argued sugar and carbs are bad
    • K ration in war is still based off of Keys
    • Keys only pushed sugar because it helped his wallet
      • Keys himself did not eat high carbs
        • “cereal is for the little people”
  • Sounded the alarm back in the 70s
  • Check out interesting article and also Lustig’s speech here!
  • Yudkin was ridiculed and shamed, but posthumously it is making a comeback
  • Gladiators would stuff themselves with grains to get a layer of fat so when they fought they had something to protect them

VIDEO WE LIKE:

NSNG COFFEE

  • Your body treats fake sweeteners and honey and stevia the same as it does all sugar
    • Agave syrup is sugar!!!
    • Causes a reaction in your liver
  • Vinnie puts one of three things in his coffee:
    • Coconut oil, for a little extra energy
    • HWC or some whole milk
    • A little bit of kerrygold butter
  • Coffee in and of itself is a flavor — if you don’t like how it tastes, then don’t drink it
    • “Just put some coffee in your coffee”
    • Remains bitter but eventually once you stop eating sugar and processed crap it won’t be so bitter
    • Same goes with all ‘bitter’ things — your taste buds will change and you’ll miss out on less
      • The fact that sugar changes your tastebuds is disconcerting enough

CHILDREN’S LUNCHES

  • Anna would rather see you pack a sandwich with hard boiled eggs and fresh veggies and such than something like a Lunchable
    • So processed and chemical-y
  • At the very least, nothing should be a processed food in a package
  • Carrots, cucumbers, nuts, apples, peanut butter, eggs, etc.
  • Just because food is from somewhere with healthy options doesn’t mean it is healthy
  • Kids having a knowing within them if you start to awaken it
