WHEN TO USE ANKLE WEIGHTS

  • Ankle weights are only really good for walking.
    • And, they’re really good to change your gait for lots of people.
  • They can be good for some quick strength training.
    • Vinnie used them to prepare for his mountain hiking.
      • Glacier boots are heavy, and when you add crampons there is more resistance, so he prepared himself for that with these weights.
        • However, he was really precise to make sure the weight was right.
      • Vinnie did this on the stair machine, still staying in Zone 2.
  • If you use these, use them for a specific purpose with the exact weight you need in the exact way that will train you for what you’re preparing for.
  • Having a specific process for a specific purpose is really important.
  • Just to keep your heart rate up when you’re walking, maybe don’t use ankle weights. Just stay in Zone 2.
  • For knee-elbow and other ground exercises, this would be a good use of ankle weights.
