BENDING THE TRUTH

  • Today’s episode starts with a discussion about Sinéad O’Connor, who has tragically passed. (2:00)
    • Vinnie and Gina give an earnest reminder to always reach out to someone when feeling mentally distressed.
    • There are so many people who care, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
  • Gina shares a recent NSV (non-scale victory)—she fits into a new pair of jeans! (11:00)
    • She has results she can FEEL, and it feels amazing.
    • She added in a little intermittent fasting.
    • But she also reads an article from the NYPost that claims intermittent fasting raises blood sugar, which doesn’t makes sense.
  • This leads to a conversation about how things like lycra and leggings help hide things like weight gain. (20:00)
    • As a result, people end up ignoring and/or delaying changes in their habits.
  • Both lycra and many epidemiological studies can be a type of “bending the truth.”
  • Back to the NYPost article: Vinnie addresses why epidemiological studies can’t fully be trusted. (26:30)
    • Correlation does not mean causation.
    • There are so many variables, like sleep, and misreporting of food intake.
    • Vinnie quizzes Gina and not even her MENSA card can help her out on this one!
    • Gina gives an example of how her schedule affected her; her body became very dysregulated.
  • Check out Gina’s book My Extra Mom. She also co-hosts with Bryan Bishop for @LAmag on the Bryan & Gina Show, which you can find on any podcast platform and on YouTube.
