PACKAGED KETO FOOD INGREDIENTS

• The show opens up with Vinnie frustrated by a common theme in recent consults. People have been telling him that they have started buying packaged “keto foods” yet can’t figure out why their success has waned.
• Ingredients like arrowroot and cassava flours, potato and tapioca starches, konjac, and others are not grains but are often used in “keto” processed foods. They are all starches, which behave in your body like sugar. Vinnie says to stay away from them.
• Similar issues are happening with other natural sugars like molasses, agave nectar, honey, and others—the body treats all sugars the same.
• Many of the “keto health foods” at ExpoWest are filled with these types of ingredients and are therefore *not* NSNG®.

GROCERY STORE REAL ESTATE

• Food manufacturers buy up “real estate” in grocery stores for specific placement to encourage more sales. It’s all planned and part of marketing and sales.
• Vinnie and Andy discuss a few previous advertising campaigns about food, and also the strategy of packaging and placement in stores.
• The best way to shop for food at the grocery store is to stay along the outer aisles, as that’s where items like fresh produce and dairy are usually placed.
