• His science is in the field of food microbiology and technology.

  • Many of the misleading statements may be traced back to the same people, institutions, companies.

THE VILLAINIZATION OF MEAT

• One of the thing he looks at, is how meat is portrayed in the Daily Mail.
  • At the beginning of the 20th century, it was about 50/50 positive/negative.
  • Now, the “meat is bad” narrative is louder. Whatever is louder tends to be perceived as the truth, even when it’s not.
• Twitter and the like are largely powered by newspapers who push bad science and the like.
• Some journals are going toward less critical, badly funded studies.
  • They’re creating, from scratch, research that benefits their viewpoint.
  • Algorithms on social media can push these.
• This social media has pushed the narrative so far that some places are banning meat in small ways, but it could be a slippery slope.
