Gilding the Lily On NSNG and Damaging DNA

  • Vinnie and Anna chat a bit about some celebrity and movie talk. (2:00)
    • Vinnie describes why many celebrities were so successful following his guidance. (8:00)
  • They discuss a common issue Vinnie hears during consultations. (10:00)
    • People try to “gild the lily”, meaning adding things that can be too much.
    • You can’t eat with impunity; it is possible to still have too much food.
    • People want a magic number or an amount to work with, but there isn’t one.
    • This is why the consultations are so helpful because Vinnie can customize advice for your situation.
  • Anna shares an item she received from a listener. (20:00)
    • It’s about a rice cooker and the claims the company makes about cooking “low-carb rice”.
    • So Vinnie explains about rice and starches and that claims like “resistant starches” are a fool’s errand. (24:15)
  • Anna then shares an article stating that sucralose (Splenda) is “genotoxic”. (26:50)
    • This means it is damaging DNA.
    • Vinnie has been screaming about how sweeteners are bad for you for years.
    • His message hasn’t changed because it’s the correct message!
    • Vinnie and Anna keep producing this podcast because it is a labor of love. (32:00)
  • Anna reads more about the sucralose article. (43:00)
  • The conversation takes a turn to Anna’s recent experience of demo-ing her sauces in a grocery store.
  • There is a pandemic of poor health across society, which makes things like the COVID pandemic even more deadly. (53:00)
  • Anna’s experience at the store shows that there is still more work to be done to get the message out!
  • They talk about a few recipes, from great burgers to a pimento cheese dip that Anna’s created. (52:00)
