Coffee Talk and Sarcopenia

  • Vinnie has always loved coffee and tried to learn what he could about it. (2:00)
    • It’s an ergogenic aid, for one.
  • Anna reads an article about coffee from “Medical News Today” about coffee as it relates to sarcopenia. (15:30)
    • Vinnie clarifies what sarcopenia is and they discuss why it’s a problem.
    • If you exercise your muscles, you are also strengthening your bones; that’s why weight-bearing exercise is great!
  • Anna reads about how metabolism affects aging muscles. (29:00)
    • There is no shortcut—proper nutrition and exercise are the best ways to combat sarcopenia.
    • The study was done by the makers of Nescafé. Even though Vinnie has his own coffee company, he’s curious about certain aspects of the claims.
  • Vinnie has had to address overtraining in recent consultations. (44:00)
    • Some folks struggle with the idea of breaking a streak and not being able to start again.
    • But there is a reason for taking a brief break: depending on the activity, your muscles need time to rebuild.
    • Rest to rebuild!
  • Anna’s upcoming Eat Happy Italian book is on the way.
