FEELINGS, HABITS, & PERFORMANCE

  • Vinnie welcomes author Ryan Munsey , author of “F*ck Your Feelings“; Ryan also hosts his own podcast called “The Better Human Project“. (2:00)
  • They first chat a bit about podcasting and audio books, but then lead into Ryan’s background in nutrition and health, and how it led him to write his book. (11:30)
    • Ryan shares his curiosity of why people have a hard time following through with things, even when they are mapped out for them.
    • What he writes in his book applies to pretty much everything, not just health and fitness.
  • Vinnie and Ryan discuss looking for a mental edge and having an approach that is based on action, not outcomes. (15:30)
    • They also chat about practice being “fresh, frequent, and flawless”.
    • It’s important to understand the repetition as it affects neurological wiring; for example, Navy SEALS and successful athletes do this.
  • Vinnie loves the challenge of learning a process and how you can make something perfect that otherwise is not meant to be perfect.
    • They chat about archery and skeet shooting as examples.
  • Vinnie also mentions a great book he read when he was younger that had a huge influence on his mindset.
    • Ryan agrees about building a “toolkit” for approaching life.
  • Vinnie and Ryan also chat a bit how things like feelings and how kids treat each other in school should be used to teach important life lessons. (50:50)
