TOM’S THOUGHTS ON SUPER SIZE ME

  • He thinks Morgan Spurlock, director of Super Size Me, and the movie itself are very entertaining
  • It’s obviously a setup
  • The nutritionist in the movie berates Spurlock for eating 5000 calories a day
  • We never saw his food log.  You would have to eat fast food and extra food

THE GOVERNMENTS ROLE

  • Government should not be in food business or diet recommendation business
  • The government will throw millions of dollars behind wheat, soy and corn
  • They have GMO in their back pocket

VEGANS

  • Tom agrees with Vinnie that it really isn’t good for your health
  • Vegan’s health improves because along with giving up meat, they also give up sugar, white bread, processed foods and probably alcohol.  They give up a lot of poor habits
  • Ethical reasons for going Vegan are another story
  • Initial weight loss is also related to cleaning up your diet

BEING CARB-PHOBIC

  • Unnecessary…rice used to be a side dish and pasta used to be a side dish
  • Today at  home and in restaurants, carbs like rice and pasta are the main dish
  • 70 years ago, the focus was not on “no carbs”, it was on balance…don’t eat too many starches
  • In the 40’s, the recommended starch per day was 2 servings….like one piece of bread or one potato.
  • Today the food pyramid suggests 11 servings
