Reminiscing & Producing on the Fly

  • The duo starts reminiscing about the early days of the podcast. (2:00)
  • Anna started writing her first cookbook and learned to do her own photography.
    • They chat about the history of “producing on the fly.”
    • They have switched to a different platform, and sound and video have improved.
    • Vinnie has confirmed through a source that he is being shadow-banned.
  •  There’s a question about the olive oil in a popular coffee chain beverage.
    • There is a UC Davis study that lists uncut olive oils. (14:30)
      • However, the study is several years old now; as a result, they are not sure how current the list of good olive oil brands is.
    • Anna recommends a deep dive into various brands; any reliable producer should be transparent about their process.
    • Clive Prosumer espresso machine is Vinnie’s favorite. (Clive doesn’t sponsor the show). (17:00)

Getting Called Out

  • General Mills has been called out in an article by Consumer Reports due to plastics in some of their foods. (20:00)
    • In “Estrogeneration,” Dr. Anthony Jay addresses this topic.
  • Podcast guest Mike Keen’s (ep. 2375) research around Greenland reveals plastics were found in seal poop in one of the more pristine places on Earth. (21:00)
  • Anna is disturbed by phthalates in some of General Mills’ foods—how does it get there? (23:00)
    • Phthalates make plastics more durable; however, they are considered a “forever chemical.”
      • This means they do not leave the body.
    • They have been associated with heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, as well as causing hormonal dysregulation.
  • Big Food doesn’t care; they do what they can get away with until called out by consumer advocates. (26:00)
    • You end up ingesting micro-doses over time.
    • From canned beverages to packaged foods to what containers you use—it all adds up.
  • It’s important to read the ingredients on food labels; Anna shares an example of a protein bar. (30:30)
  • The messaging claims for meat alternatives didn’t pass Vinnie’s “smell test.” (32:30)
    • “Plant-based” has leveled out, as has the “keto explosion” of packaged foods.
    • Vinnie’s “Beyond Impossible” documentary explains it all. (See additional show notes for links to the documentary).
    • Anna reads an article about a new version of Beyond Meat that is coming out.
      • The fake meat manufacturer is trying to lure back consumers. (41:00)

Lead by Example

  • Anna hears how hard NSNG® is when others in the family are not on board. (46:30)
    • Belief work is a thing.
      • Only make suggestions if someone asks about your progress.
      • Don’t preach “Vinnie says” or load others up with unsolicited “you should”s.
      • Vinnie agrees: People have to do it on their own.  Please avoid preaching and never shame others.
  • Body positivity ought to be rebranded. Loving yourself and still seeking health are not mutually exclusive.
  • Shoutout to a few of the great success stories of NSNG®. (54:00)
  • Anna reminds listeners about belief work and evolving: Your physical you is changing but so is your mental awareness. (58:00)
  • They discuss Anna’s upcoming Eat Happy Italian book. (47:00)
