AVOIDING JUNK FOOD

  • Berkeley, California has banned junk food near checkouts.
  • This is great.
  • Generally, people cave to junk food because it’s right in front of them.
  • Making it easier to avoid is a good thing.
  • The junk food brands aren’t getting the same shelf space — nor should they.
    • This sort of law is fighting the economics of crap food.
      • Horrible food brands should not be able to sell more simply because they can afford to put the food in front of kids.
  • They may be able to figure out other ways to push this unhealthy food.
    • However, this a start.
      • They’re subbing in “healthier” foods.
        • The heart is in the right place, but we need to make sure it’s *actually* healthy foods here.
