Today’s return guest is one of Vinnie’s favorites, Ivor Cummins, host of The Fat Emperor. Vinnie discusses with Ivor how his problem solving skills in engineering have also been useful in his research of health and nutrition. Learn about the role of Vitamin D in optimum health, how carbs affect us in all areas of health, Omega 3 and Omega 6 and what works with genetic heart disease where medicines fail…
IVOR’S RESEARCH
- Ivor got a bad blood report…his cholesterol was high
- Wanted to find out about markers and cholesterol
- His GGT was high which is linked to a higher mortality rate
- Needed his technical background to do research…not something he could just Google or look up in Wikipedia
WHAT IVOR DISCOVERED
- What doctor’s were telling us about cholesterol was wrong
- A high LDL count is a very weak variable in determining heart health
- Blood tests are used to determine whether to give statins
- But medical professionals don’t dig deep enough; they don’t get in the science and research
NUTRITION AND HEALTH
- Nutrition is fundamental to overall health as well as the role of grains, sugar, Omega 6/Omega 3 ratio and Vitamin D levels
- Omega 6 and Omega 3 compete for pathways to metabolize and if we have a higher level of Omega 6 it tends towards an inflammatory state
- 70% of people in the U.S. have insufficient Vitamin D, especially in northern latitudes where they do not get a lot of sun
- Doctors upped the daily dosage of Vitamin D from 400 i.u. to 600 i.u. and can go as high as 3-4,000 i.u’s a day
LPa AND HEART DISEASE
- LPa is a very strong, key genetic risk for heart disease
- High levels do not respond to medication
- However, they do respond to a low-carb diet
- Even genetic risk factors can be affected by low-carb diets
